Recent Personal Projects
North West Artist Development Lab – Collective of mentored artists working towards a body of research for exhibition in 2019, as part of the Arts Council funded project Platform with Signal Film and Media. 2018 – 2019. Rachel’s research explores the youth culture of Barrow-in-Furness, through a series of portraits.
Barrow’s Salty Yarns – A pilot project funded by Heritage Lottery Fund in 2018. Created, managed and gained funding to commission local artists Full of Noises sound collective, filmmaker Julia Parks and local historians, to work within the community at Rampside, Roa & Piel Island. Oral history and creative work inspired by the salty generational heritage found were created, The project and artist Julia Parks was featured in BBC Countryfile in April 2018. The project website is currently being updated.
A Woman’s Work Is Never Done – The National Trust, Quarry Bank, Jan-Apr 2017. Micro commission exhibition installation, for Quarry Bank’s new museum exhibition of the same title, exploring the lives of the women associated with the cotton mill.
MA Textile Practice – Manchester School of Art, MMU, 2016 – 2018. The research covered the idea of visualising memory and collective narratives through a variety of materiality and methodologies.
