Commissioned by Barrowfull (Arts Council Creative People and Places) and Dalton Arts, Culture and Heritage (DACH) to create a digital heritage trail for the market town of Dalton-in-Furness. Dalton once the ancient capital of Furness, goes back beyond the Doomsday book and links to the medieval Cistercian Furness Abbey, once the second largest in England.

The centre of the commission for the artist was to ensure community engagement with schools that they felt part of their heritage. The pupils of the local primary secondary schools researched the histories of the sites and with the idea of medieval banners and motifs they contributed illustrations to included within the artworks for the signage. The pupils also provided voice overs for the multi accessible films for each part of the trail.

Each site has its own sign located within reach, the information takes you to its dedicated web page providing written historical research from local experts and subtitled films allowing arm chair interaction. A newly designed easy to read map that be downloaded directly or picked up at Dalton Town Hall is available for free.

The trail was launched during Dalton Day, declared open by the Mayor, schools, families and local community groups were invited to make banners and marched from Dalton Castle to Tudor Square. Rachel made a celebratory film about the town and trail.
