All Hung Out To Dry

All Hung Out To Dry – Embroidery on vintage linen

All Hung Out To Dry is a small embroidered vintage linen handkerchief detailing a love letter in Arabic from a wife to a husband who took the perilous journey from Syria to Greece.  The handkerchief was found on the beach. The idea being the textile would last the journey whereas paper could not. An embroidered map ‘A Rough Idea Guide’, accompanies the letter with a fervent hope of safe arrival. Why are we not kinder? Why do we allow this to happen?

This piece was made in response to the call out for the Venice Vending Machine and the Biennale theme, ‘All The World’s Futures’.
